Old Man Pentavus ranting again, well, maybe less of a rant and more of a “Seriously?” moment.
Porting games between consoles and offering the HD treatment happens frequently now a days and even before. You have good examples like Mario Kart 8 to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Resident Evil 4 being on everything for anyone to enjoy. Then you have the terrible ones like the Prince of Persia HD Collection or the Megaman Zero collection. There’s also some, which while done properly, leave some question as to why they kept or added stuff.
Today, I’m bringing up one of those. Disgaea 5 Complete for the Switch. Originally released on PS4, it brought joy to me as this is one of my favorite SRPG series and along with games on PS4, it brought the familiar “bing” of receiving a trophy for doing certain things in-game. I bought the Switch version as I hadn’t bought any of the DLC on PS4 so I figured might as well get the Complete edition! After finishing the first chapter, I was greeted with this on my screen:
Confusion struck me, not understanding what was going on. How could I have obtained a bronze trophy will playing on the Switch?!
Looking into it after getting back to the main hub world, I discovered an NPC I had not seen on the PS4 version, one specifically made for Trophies. Talking to him and opening up the trophy option, I was greeted with the PS4 list of trophies, and I do mean the same list, including the Platinum trophy!
Now, I understand that the Switch does not have achievements like the PS4 or the Xbone and that it was a neat way to transfer all the content over but it was surprising. What I am curious on though is why keep it the exact same as the PS4 achievements? They kept the Bronze/Silver/Gold/Platinum system exactly the same, maybe it’s just that I’m feeling that was kind of an uninspired way of bringing the achievements over too, I really dunno, sometimes you just wonder why something was added or brought over in those HD/Collection/Port.
Let me know what your thoughts are on this and if you’ve run into any other “But why?” moments with those.
