Puzzle games have been the leaders of the casual game industry, with companies like Popcap games and Zynga leading the pack, it was great to see other companies join in, Valve reunited our love for cake and robots with personality, EA brought us an update on a Russian classic, and Atlus gave us an unique blend of genres to tell us that puzzle games are not just for grandma’s.
Atlus and the persona team really pushed themselves with this game, a perfect blend of horror, romance and puzzle games made it stand out above the others. The block moving puzzles are simple to learn, and hard to master. With a two player co-op mode that changes at every play, this strange little game from Japan deserves a bit of glory.
Honorable Mention: Portal 2.
When it came down to our winners Portal 2 was the biggest competition, great story with amazing puzzles and great single player. However as great as Portal 2 is, there was some things that were missing, like the lack of replayability after you go though everything. Despite everything that it has, a puzzle game needs a few things before it can be amazing, and that is something that gives the player something to come back to over and over.
