A good horror game should have one goal, to make us s**t ourselves. We’re looking a the most suspenseful, terrifying, and atmospheric games to land in 2014. If we didn’t almost crap ourselves, or in some cases have a panic attack, then the game would not be in our list.
AND THE NOMINEES ARE…
THE EVIL WITHIN – TANGO GAMEWORKS/BETHESDA
ALIEN ISOLATION – CREATIVE ASSEMBLY/SEGA
AMONG THE SLEEP – KILLBITE STUDIOS
5 NIGHTS AT FREDDY’S – DEVELOPED BY SCOTT CAWTHON
AND THE WINNER IS…
ALIEN ISOLATION – CREATIVE ASSEMBLY/SEGA
This was a close battle between Alien Isolation, which put us defenceless against an intelligent Xenomorph and 5 Nights At Freddy’s which came out of nowhere this year to deliver a great indie horror experience. What made the difference is that we were absolutely spent playing through Alien Isolation from experiencing panic attacks from the increasingly intelligent Alien that stalked the corridors.
HONOURABLE MENTION
P.T.
When P.T. hit the Playstation network, we didn’t know what to expect. The short 2 hour game kept us guessing until we saw Guillermo Del Toro and Hideo Kojima name announcing Silent Hill. In the two short hours, we were disturbed, scared, and intrigued. The only reason why P.T. did not win or was nominated was by one technical problem, it wasn’t really the full game. We’re confident enough though that we’re sure that whenever the game launches, Silent Hills will definitely be on our list.
