Sometimes the right song can set the mood of the entire game, whether used in game or for promotional use, these were are what was the best use of specific songs in 2014. In this category, it didn’t matter if the game was good, but whether the presentation of the song and how it fit with the title which is why we opened the category up to trailers as well.
There were plenty of stiff competition too, with the likes of Lorde’s rendition of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” which was placed perfectly to get us excited to play our part in the French Revolution, and The Raconteurs’ “Salute your Solution” gave us a taste of the fast pace action we would see in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. All are great songs on their own, but we could only have one winner.
AND THE NOMINEES ARE:
LORDE – EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD (ASSASSIN’S CREED UNITY E3 TRAILER)
DARREN KORB WITH VOCALS BY ASHLEY BARRETT – THE SPINE (TRANSISTOR)
THE RACONTEURS – SALUTE YOUR SOLUTION (CALL OF DUTY: ADVANCED WARFARE LAUNCH TRAILER)
AT SEA – SOMETHING IN THE WAY (LAST OF US: REMASTERED E3 LAUNCH TRAILER)
AND THE WINNER…
DARREN KORB WITH VOCALS BY ASHLEY BARRETT – THE SPINE (TRANSISTOR)
While we could have easily filled this list with music from SuperGiant Game’s Transistor, we went with The Spine, a slow mellow tune that really set the mood for the cyber-punk RPG. Aside from setting the mood, the song fits directly with the events of the game and one of the major enemies that Red and the Transistor must fight. We’ve come to expect such amazing music from Supergiant (Bastion) and “The Spine” is one of the best examples of the team’s attention to detail.
