The fighting genre was strong throughout 2014, with EA covering the simulation fighting in their second attempt at MMA with EA Sports UFC, while Arc System Works reigned with several 2D fighters, Persona 4 Ultimax, Guilty Gear Xrd and Blazblue Chrono Phantasma. Sadly only one of these can walk away with the championship belt.
AND THE NOMINEES ARE…
BLAZBLUE: CHRONO PHANTASMA – ARC SYSTEM WORKS
PERSONA 4 ARENA ULTIMAX – ATLUS/ARC SYSTEM WORKS
EA SPORTS UFC – EA VANCOUVER/EA
GUILTY GEAR XRD -Sign- – ARC SYSTEM WORKS
SUPER SMASH BROS WII U – NINTENDO
AND THE WINNER IS…
SUPER SMASH BROS WII U – NINTENDO
Fighting games have a problem of being overly complicated, not that we would normally have a problem with that, but Super Smash Bros. is simple enough that it’s easy to play and learn. With the addition of 8 player brawls, Amiibo support and various game modes, the latest entree in Nintendo’s long running brawler deserves its spot on the top.
