Adapting a previously set world to a video game is a hard task, how else could you explain all the horrible movie based games on the market. Lately though it seems that developers are getting the hang of it, expanding on worlds, creating new systems, and in some cases, improving on the source material.
AND THE NOMINEES ARE…
MIDDLE-EARTH: SHADOWS OF MORDOR – MONOLITH/WB GAMES
ALIEN ISOLATION – CREATIVE ASSEMBLY/SEGA
THE WALKING DEAD SEASON 2 – TELLTALE GAMES
SOUTH PARK: THE STICK OF TRUTH – UBISOFT/OBSIDIAN/SOUTH PARK STUDIOS
THE WOLF AMONG US – TELLTALE GAMES
AND THE WINNER IS…
ALIEN ISOLATION
This was a very close call between South Park, Alien and Shadows of Mordor. All of them were some of our favourite games this year but in the end we went with Alien Isolation as it felt the closest to the source material while improving on what we know of the franchise. The atmosphere, the tense moments, the knowing that around the corner is a large animal ready to rip you apart is as horrifying as when we watched it on VHS all those years ago.
