The RPG genre has been dipping it’s toes into other game styles for a while now, and it’s very noticeable in this years nominees. Blending the over the top action of Capcom’s Devil May Cry series in Dragon’s Dogma, using strategy using a cover based system in The Last Story, or using a deep combat system found in Kingdom of Amalur. Our winner though took the basics of RPG systems to make one of the hardest and most rewarding RPG games this year.
AND THE WINNER IS…
XCOM: ENEMY UNKNOWN
XCOM: Enemy Unknown’s management system is one of the deepest mechanic we’ve seen in turn-based strategy games in years, one wrong move or choice is the difference between life and death, this is exactly how we like our RPGs. The game is addicting and rewarding due to it’s difficulty, and there is plenty of content for the game to keep you busy.
