And Now For Something Completely Similar…
Great directors can often have humble beginnings as Brendan and Jason examine the third film by Alfonso Cuaron and a modern re-telling of Great Expectations (#5 on the BFI Top 100) starring Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow. They talk about Cuaron regretting having made the film, the relentless voiceover, several characters that were excised from the source material for this version, the portrait scene and its similarities to Titanic and much more. Plus: the guys recorded this on the night before the US Election so please excuse the weird nonsense that sometimes creeps in.
Next week: The mini-series continues with a discussion of the Coen Brothers remake – The Ladykillers.
