On Thursday, Nintendo and Koei Tecmo have formally announced the release date for Fatal Frame 5. The game will be released in Japan on September 27th 2014 under the name Zero: Nuregarasu no Miku, which is roughly translated to Fatal Frame: The Black-Haired Shrine Maiden. As mentioned before, the game is a Wii U exclusive and currently we do not know if there is any plans for a North American release.
Fatal Frame: The Black-Haired Shrine Maiden follows the series Japanese Ghost Story vibe well from the trailer and Siliconera was able to grab a few additional notes about the game, including that Water will be a present theme in the game. The Story will focus on Yuri Kozukata, who has a gift in the ability to bring back people who have been “Spirited Away” and travels to a mountain village by a request from a girl who is out to find a certain someone. More interesting is the notes about the gameplay, specifically that the Wii U GamePad will include the Camera Obscura feature, allowing you to see that you would normally not be able to see (i.e. Ghosts) and be used as a weapon.
As mentioned above, there is currently no plans for a North American release, however there is some hope as Fatal Frame 2’s remake on the Wii made it to Europe and Australia, while the 3DS Spirit Camera was released in multiple regions. The original 3 Fatal Frame titles are available via the PSN network and has done quite well during it’s time which may indicate to Koei Tecmo and Nintendo that North American Fans of the series are still around.
