If there was one thing to take away from Bethesda’s first ever E3 conference, it was that Fallout 4 is going to be a huge game with Game of the Year nominee written all over it. As the last presentation of the night, Executive Producer and director for Fallout 4; Todd Howard, gave a ton of information.
Starting with the first gameplay trailer showing off the opening of the game, where players can dive into a deep customization for their characters, choosing male or female and sculpting of the characters face in unique system that looked insanely fluid. The opening takes place the day the Nukes are dropped. Todd didn’t give away too much of the story, however it is known that you survive, and 200 years later you emerge from Vault 111.
Customization was the name of the show, as some new gameplay footage showed weapons and armour being fully customizable, allowing you to craft the additions by finding specific parts. The gameplay footage also showed a more fluid combat system including the return of VATS.
Also announced at the show as a new Mobile game based on Fallout called “Fallout Shelter.” A Sims-like game where you play as a vault’s Overseer. The game is free to play, and will have you managing your other vault dwellers, sending them out to the wastelands for supplies, working around the vault and even help re-populate. It appears that the game will only charge micro-transactions on “lunchboxes” which provides you quick access to weapons and gear.
Speaking of mobile, Fallout 4 will also have a Collectors Edition which will include a PipBoy designed like the one in the game. The PipBoy casing will be able to hold your phone and use it as a second screen experience allowing you to check your stats and manage your inventory.
The whole presentation for Fallout 4 took about 45-60 minutes, but made the wait worth it as a release date of November 10th 2015 was also announced. Also present at the presentation was DOOM, Dishonored 2, Battlecry and Elder Scrolls Online, but more on those titles will be available in our Conference Recap.
