We’ve all seen the collection of classic arcade games that usually plague your local Wal-Mart, with selections of possibly 2-3 legitimate games and then 99 cheap knock-offs, and with a market that is ripe for aiming at your nostalgia of these classics, who can blame them.
This is why when we heard about the Evercade, a handheld that claims to have a large library of retro classics from Atari, Data East and Namco, we were a little warry about it’s legitimacy. After a little digging, not only did we find out it’s legitimate but it also holds a nice collection of games that are officially licensed from the developers and the company is in talks with several indie publishers to bring their retro inspired games to new console.
The Evercade is currently confirming 85 licensed games from Namco (including classics like Pac-Man, Galaga, Dig Dug to more niche titles like Splatterhouse 2 and 3), Interplay (including Earthworm Jim 1 and 2, Clayfighters and Boogerman), Data East (Bad Dudes, Burger Time and Karate Champ) and Atari (Asteroids, Centipede, Missile Command), with the promise of having over 100 titles for launch and more to come.
The console is around the side of a PSP with a 4.3″ screen size, and comes with the ability to connect to your TV via HDMI. The system will be released in Q4 2019 and priced at $79.99 USD, while post launch games cartridges will be released at $19.99 USD with 6-20 games.
The Evercade is looking to be launched globally, however a full release date and how to order the console has not been released yet. For more on the Evercade, check out their website www.evercade.co.uk
