Sony isn’t the only one jumping ship on the E3 press conference this year, as EA has announced that their EA Play event will not be having the usual press conference but rather they’ll be hosting a series of livestreams. According to EA, the event will “see less talk and more play” and will kick off on June 7 over three days.
“We’re skipping the press conference this year and are replacing it with multiple live streams that will air during the first two days of the event,” EA said, “bringing you more of what you’ve told us you want — more gameplay and insights from the teams making the games.”
Things that we do know will be part of the event – closer looks at Respawn’s Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (which will officially debute in April during the Star Wars Celebration) and new entries in the Need for Speed and Plants vs Zombies franchises.
For those worried for a lackluster E3, we do have some good news. Microsoft has already announced that they will not be skipping E3 and promised quite the show stating that they will be “going big at E3 2019”. Devolver Digital also confirmed their presence at the show shortly after news broke of EA’s absence.
Nintendo will likely continue their tradition with another Nintendo Direct, leaving Ubisoft and Bethesda to confirm their plans for E3 at this time.
