It appears that EA will be deciding the fate of Bioware’s ill-fated shooter Anthem in the near future as the publisher will be making a call on whether or not they will continue working on rebooting the game.
According to Bloomberg, EA executives will be reviewing the latest version of the game this week. Currently, the attempt to revamp the game is reported to be worked on by 30 people, however, Bioware is requesting closer to 90 people in order to finish reworking the game’s original gameplay and adding new content. EA will be deciding if they will invest that time and resources to the game or scrap it altogether.
To say that Anthem had a rocky start is a bit of an understatement, as the game saw multiple game-breaking bugs, crashes, and in some cases, bricked consoles. Our own copy of the game was ejected from the PS4 in a way we didn’t think was possible until it happened. Still, EA believed that they could re-work the game with an overhaul in hopes for a situation similar to No Man’s Sky or Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn.
While many speculated the failed launch of Anthem may have been the nails in the coffin for Bioware, the studio has announced a few new projects since then, including the recently announced Mass Effect: Legendary Edition – a remaster of the original Mass Effect Trilogy which is set to launch on Xbox One, PS4 and PC in May, as well as a new entry in the Mass Effect and Dragon Age series.
