While we know that new EA games will not be featuring the widely criticized Online Pass. EA seems to be putting the axe to the existing ones as well, giving free access to multiplayer as well as free content that was originally linked to the pass. As of right now this is only done on the Xbox 360 and for only a few games, however an EA representative has mentioned that it will be rolling out for more titles and for the PS3 as well.
“As we discontinue Online Pass for our new EA titles, we are also in the process of eliminating it from all our existing EA titles as well,” corporate communications rep John Reseburg told Game Informer. “We heard the feedback from players and decided to do away with Online Pass altogether.”
Currently, only a few titles are affected by this but most are part of the Online Pass that included single player content including Mass Effect 2’s Cerberus Network, and the full version of American McGee’s Alice which came with the online pass for Alice Madness Returns. The whole list of games currently affected by this is below.
- Alice: Madness Returns – American McGee’s Alice
- Bad Company 2 VIP
- Bulletstorm Online Pass
- Dragon Age: Origins – The Stone Prisoner
- Dragon Age 2: The Black Emporium
- Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Online Pass
- Mass Effect 2: Cerberus Network
- Medal of Honor Online Pass
- SHIFT 2 UNLEASHED™ ONLINE PASS
