Since dropping Tiger Wood’s name from EA Sports PGA series, the series has been without a star athlete, allowing them to go crazy and play Golf in a warzone surrounded by jets and battleships. For this year, EA will be adding golfer Rory McIlroy as the star athlete to headline the game’s title and box cover .
McIlroy, age 24, has won 4 four Majors and is considered the best player in the game of golf right now. “I grew up idolizing the best golfers in the world, and now I’m one of them,” he said. “One of the ways I idolized them was in video games. Playing video games is one of the ways I try to relax in my downtime, and one of my favorite video games was golf. That’s what makes today’s announcement so exciting to me. I am on the cover of EA Sports Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR and it’s named after me. That is crazy! I am more excited than I can possibly put into words.”
If Golf is not your sport then there is some interesting tech news to follow this game for, as Rory McIlroy’s PGA Golf 2015 will use the Frostbite Engine, best known for its use in the Battlefield franchise. This engine will allow EA to get rid of the pesky load times between holes which plagued the series.
“This new toolset allows the development team to create beautiful new environments, featuring the most detailed courses in franchise history,” EA says. “Frostbite also renders the entire course at once, eliminating load times between holes and allowing users to play their shot from almost any location.”
Originally the game was slated for a March release, however it has been pushed back to an unknown date in the summer, just after The Masters Tournament in April.
