Following a bunch of delays such as Final Fantasy VII Remake, Cyberpunk 2077 and The Avengers, Techland has announced that their upcoming sequel to 2015’s open-world zombie game, Dying Light, will not be making its originally scheduled spring 2020 release.
“We were initially aiming for a Spring 2020 release with Dying Light 2, but unfortunately we need more development time to fulfill our vision,” said Techland CEO Pawel Marchewka in a note posted to the franchise’s Twitter account. He added, “Our priority is to deliver an experience that lives up to our own high standards and to the expectations of you, our fans.”
No new release date has been given for Dying Light 2, instead, Marchewka has stated that the company “will have more to share in the coming months.”
Dying Light 2 is currently set as a PS4, Xbox One and PC title, however, plans for it to be a cross-generational game have already been announced. The game was first announced at E3 2018 during Microsoft’s press conference, while the release window was given a year later at E3 2019. Dying Light 2 was said to have a heavier focus on the parkour gameplay which made the original so popular, and more focus on the story as the game promised a changing world based on your decisions.
