While the “Nindie” Nintendo Direct gave us some awesome moments like Cuphead coming to the Switch and an Indie Collaboration for a Crypt of the NecroDancer themed Zelda game, the presentation was a bit lackluster. That is, until Double Fine Productions stepped up to introduce RAD, their upcoming game being spearheaded by project lead Lee Petty – creator of Stacking and Headlander.
Rad is a 3rd-person-top-down adventure set in a 90’s themed nuclear wasteland. Players must travel across the land spreading vegetation where ever they go and use special mutations to help fight monsters and solve puzzles. The trailer showed off some of the mutations that will be available, including growing a snake head and goblin wings, having a flaming arm and acid feet, as well as laying eggs to hatch helpful minions.
Rad is being published by Bandai Namco and is currently scheduled for a summer 2019 release. Double Fine Productions also announced that the game will be coming to the PS4 around that time as well.
