With DOOM Eternal around the corner, its time for Bethesda to release some new detail on the highly anticipated sequel’s Multiplayer mode which was at E3 described as a 2-v-1 multiplayer mode involving the Doomslayer and demons. Over the weekend at QuakeCon, the publisher did exactly that by giving us a look at the mode in action.
So what is Battle Mode? The mode is a 3-player where one player takes up the role of the Slayer – who is armed to the teeth wtih guns, mods and equipment – against two human controlled demons with a variety of abilities and the ability to summon AI controlled Demons and Hazards. Slayers must kill both demons within 20 seconds of each other in order to win and matches are best of five rounds. Between round players can upgrade their abilities, adding more demons and giving Slayers access to the BFG as matches go on.
So far, only three demons have been revealed including the Revenant with a jet-pack and shoulder-mounted rockets as well as a special rocket barrage; a Pain Elemental that can fly and track the Slayer, also has a rechargeable shield; and a Mancubus who uses heavy cannons and flame throwers. Bethesda also mentioned the Archvile and Marauder will be available, and that the game will include six maps at launch with more maps and demons coming post-launch.
The new multiplayer mode does look intense and it’ll be interesting to see how (and if) it will be accepted by the community. On top of this showing and to celebrate 25 years of DOOM, the original DOOM, DOOM II and DOOM III where made available on Playstation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch for those looking to scratch that classic DOOM itch before Doom Eternal launches this November.
