With the success of the Detective Pikachu 3DS game and film, it makes sense that our favourite talking Pikachu would be getting a follow-up on the Nintendo Switch. President and CEO of The Pokemon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara, confirmed the follow-up to the original game yesterday during a massive Pokemon event which also announced some additional side projects including Pokemon Sleep and the mobile game Pokemon Masters.
Ishihara didn’t confirm much more about the Switch version of the game, only stating that it would offer a conclusion to the story of the first game. Detective Pikachu for the Nintendo 3DS did end on a cliffhanger, but it is unknown if the Switch version will be a direct sequel or an expanded port of the original with more content.
“Can’t wait to keep sleuthing with [Detective Pikachu]? Plans are under way to bring this crime-solving Pikachu to Nintendo Switch!” the company said on Twitter. “The details of this game are still a mystery…so keep checking back here for more clues.”
Detective Pikachu tells the story of a talking Pikachu and his human sidekick Tim Goodman, who attempt to solve mysteries in the world of Pokemon, which includes the whereabouts of Tim’s missing father. The story was adapted for the first ever live action Pokemon movie, which quite possibly opened the way for the Pokemon cinematic universe.
