This has been a really bad year for fans of Konami, despite Hideo Kojima’s final game at the company, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, the harsh departure of Kojima from the company has left both Metal Gear and Silent Hill fans mad and confused.
And it’s safe to say that they’re not the only ones.
In an interview with Bloody-Disgusting, Pacific Rim and Crimson Peaks director Guillermo del Toro opened up about his feeling towards the cancellation of Silent Hills, the horror game that was set to be headed by del Toro and Kojima, as well as star Boondock Saints and Walking Dead star Norman Reedus. It was later leaked that famed horror manga artist Junji Ito was also a collaborator for the game. In the interview, del Toro had this to say about the cancellation.
We had a great experience and had great story sessions with hundreds upon hundreds of designs. Some of the stuff that we were designing for Silent Hills I’ve seen in games that came after, like The Last of Us, which makes me think we were not wrong, we were going in the right direction.
The thing with Kojima and Silent Hills is that I thought we would do a really remarkable game and really go for the jugular.
We were hoping to actually create some sort of panic with some of the devices we were talking about and it is really a shame that it’s not happening. When you ask about how things operate, that makes no f**king sense at all that that game is not happening.
While we still don’t know the full extent of Kojima’s leave, which not only saw the cancellation of Silent Hills, but as well as the removal of Kojima’s name from the Metal Gear Solid V box and the removal of P.T., Silent Hills “Playable Teaser”, from the Playstation store.
Knowing that the game was going to play similar to The Last of Us, doesn’t make the cancellation hurt any less. Be sure to check out Guillermo del Toro’s interview with Bloody Disgusting which talks about his new film, Crimson Peak, which releases October 16 staring Tom Hiddleston.
