The Syfy original series Defiance was a great three season series that didn’t get enough love, however the MMO Shooter that launched alongside the show continues to live on with a following, especially after moving to a Free-To-Play model.
The Defiance MMO is now fairly old, released back in 2013, and players have clamored for a PS4 and XBox One port for some time now. After a long time of the Defiance Community asking, developers Trion World is doing more than just a simple port, they’re rebooting the game as Defiance 2050.
According to the developers, Defiance 2050 was built from the ground up to be the best version of Defiance possible, with major overhauls to key systems like progression and items, and various innovations. “To do this, we had to ensure that the game wasn’t hindered by the past,” writes Producer Matt “Destromathe” Pettit in a Producer’s Letter. “A move that ultimately resulted in some elements from the original game, like entire character and item transfers, not being possible.”
Defiance is a Third Person MMO Shooter involving a Terra-formed Earth which is now home to multiple alien species. Players take the role of an Ark Hunter, a group of scavengers who collects alien technology from falling crashed spacecrafts. Players could take part in massive co-operative Battles with various monsters created by the Arks, and complete story missions that followed along with the now ended TV series.
Trion World has stated that Defiance 2050 will be free to play from the start and a Closed Beta will be coming soon, those who are currently playing Defiance will be inducted into the Valor Program, allowing players to earn exclusive upgrades and special in-game rewards.
