Variety reported that Legendary Digital Media are making plans to release a feature-length film based on Capcom’s DeadRising exclusively for Sony’s streaming service Crackle. The project has gotten Transformers producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura as an executive producer along with Tomas Harlan of Contradiction Films who previously worked on the Mortal Kombat: Legacy Series, although currently no director has been attached to the project.
Following the movie’s run on Crackle, the film will be distributed by Content Media internationally via DVD, video on demand, subscription video on demand and TV. Content Media recently distributed previous webfilms like Halo: Forward to Dawn and Street Fighter: Assassins Fist. The DeadRising Movie will be the first under Legendary Digital Media flag.
While normally we would be weary of movies based on games, especially one based on over-the-top action and zombies, but with the resent trend of game Webseries being awesome (see: Mortal Kombat: Legacy, Street Fighter Assassins Fist) and the fact that we really want to see someone take a chainsaw paddle to a fight against a horde of mindless zombies a la DeadAlive is making this a project that we would love to see more from later in the future.
Crackle is a free app available on PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as mobile devices, smart TVs and media players like Roku, Apple TV and Chromecast.
