The first season of The Legend of Vox Machina started as a Kickstarter back project in 2019, originally set to be an animated special asking for $750,000 for a single 22-minute short. However, one hour into the launch of the Kickstarter, the project raised over $1 Million, reaching $4.3 Million by the end of the day with all stretch goals unlocked, and earned the title of one of the most quickly funded in Kickstarter history. The series was picked up by Amazon Studios later that year, confirming an additional 12 episodes for a second season. Due to the pandemic, season one was delayed until earlier this year to positive reviews with critics.
Season two is set to continue from the cliffhanger ending of the first season, and will cover the Chroma Conclave story arc from Critical Role’s live-play. At the panel, they provided a short clip of the opening of the second season which starts with the Chromatic Dragons destroying Emon.
Critical Role is a livestreamed Dungeons and Dragons actual play founded in 2015 and features “a bunch of nerdy ass voice actors” including Matthew Mercer (Overwatch,) Laura Bailey (The Last of Us Part II), Taliesin Jaffe (Injustice), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us,) Liam O’Brien (Darksiders, Naruto), Marisha Ray (Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire,) Sam Riegel (Persona 4,) and Travis Willingham (Avengers.)
