Two of Ubisoft’s hand-drawn masterpieces (a word I don’t use lightly) are heading to the Nintendo Switch later this year. Ubisoft Montreal’s Child of Light, a side-scrolling RPG inspired by fairytales, and Ubisoft Montpellier’s Valiant Hearts, an emotional and historic look at World War 1 and those involved.
Ubisoft announced the two titles would be coming to the Nintendo Switch via a blog post ont he official Ubisoft News Page, confirming Child of Light will be coming on October 11th and Valiant Hearts on November 8th. Both games will be getting Switch exclusive features such as multiplayer in Child of Light and full touchscreen capability in Valiant Hearts – which will also come with the interactive comic, Valiant Hearts: Dogs of War.
Both games were built using the UbiArts Framework engine, a 2.5D system developed by Ubisoft Montpellier to organize 2D animated vector graphics into playable video games without extensive code. The engine was first used with Rayman Origins and its sequel – Rayman Legends. Child of Light and Valiant Hearts were released in 2014 with Ubisoft pushing the engine’s capabilities during press conferences. Both games received a large amount of critical praise, with both games receiving around an average score of 8 out of 10.
