If you’re a fan of Gwent – The Witcher Card Game but only play on PS4 and Xbox One, it might be time to look into jumping to PC or iOS very soon as developer CD Projekt Red will be shutting off support for the game starting on December 9th.
According to the developer, there will be no more updates, expansions, real-money purchases or matchmaking support for the game beginning on December 9th; which an update will effectively freeze Gwent in its current state for both PS4 and Xbox One, while leaving the game operational with limited functionality until June 9th.
“When we launched the console versions of Gwent back in 2017, our intention was to provide console players with the same level of support as their PC counterparts,” CD Projekt Red said. “However, having just launched Gwent on iOS, and with the Android version coming, the number of supported platforms would significantly increase.”
CD Projekt Red has confirmed that they will continue supporting the PC and mobile versions of the game – which is considered to be the most popular platforms for the game. Meanwhile, PS4 and Xbox One players will be given 6 months to transfer their accounts over to their GOG Account – this data includes ornaments, Meteorite Powder for Xbox One players, currencies, cards, decklists, levels, ranks, Thronebreaker rewards, and contracts. (PS4 users will not be able to transfer Meteorite Powder, which is used for crafting as the transfer is “not possible” according to CD Projekt Red.)
