Yesterday, CD Projekt Red had announced that they will be teaming up with Swedish Punk Rock band Refused to write, record and produce songs for the highly anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 under the game’s fictional band, Samurai. The songs will include tunes inspired by the Cyberpunk 2020 source material, plus new songs the band wrote exclusively for the game.
To give us a tease of what we can expect from Samurai in the world of Cyberpunk 2077, Refused released a new song called “Chippin’ in” via Youtube which you can listen to above. If you notice that it sounds a bit familiar, it’s because it’s the same song that Keanu Reeves walked out to during Microsoft’s E3 Presentation. Keanu Reeves will also have a connection to the band, as he will play Johnny Silverhand, the singer and guitarist for Samurai. However despite being the singer, he will not be lending his vocals for the music.
CD Projekt Red’s music director, Marcin Przybyłowicz, stated that a lot of the members of the studio were fans of Refused including one of the game’s composers, Piotr Adamczyk, who gave the idea to approach them for a collaboration.
“I’m very happy he did, because the massive riffs, powerful drums, and hard-hitting vocals the guys from Refused deliver as Samurai have blown me away,” Przybyłowicz said. “I can wholeheartedly say the punk factor of Cyberpunk 2077’s music is through the roof!”
Refused lead singer Dennis Lyxzén said, “Like us, Samurai is a group of rebels, albeit in a different time and place. Working together with CD Projekt Red, writing music and song lyrics for Cyberpunk’s chrome rock icon was fun, but also very different in the creative sense. It was an unexpected challenge that turned out to be right up our alley and really got us going. The songs turned out great and the game looks insane.”
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently set to release on April 16th, 2020 for PS4, Xbox One and PC.
