Since opening their movie label in 2015 under Activison Blizzard Studios, Activision has been trying hard to get a Call of Duty film off the ground. The studio has produced a successful animated series with Netflix with Skylanders Academy and has recently rumoured to be partnering again with Netflix for a Diablo TV series, as well as an Overwatch animated series – yet, the Call of Duty movie has continued to hit a series of delays.
At the moment, it seems that the movie is no longer a major priority for the studio as Director Stefano Sollima has stated in an interview with BadTaste that the film is on hold as the parties decide how to move forward. Sollima, who previously worked on Sicario: Day of the Soldado, has been attached to the project as a director and mentioned that he wrote the Call of Duty movie script alongside Scott Silver, who wrote scripts for Joker and The Fighter.
Activision has yet to point out the status of the film at this time or have officially announced the Diablo and Overwatch series, which were seen on studio producer’s Nick van Dyk’s LinkedIn Page. In previous statements, Activision Blizzard Studios wanted to make a Call of Duty Cinematic Universe, with multiple movies and plots linking together.
We’ll keep you posted if there are any updates on the Call of Duty films.
