I’ll admit I’m not a huge fan of Call of Duty, I’ll never say the series is bad, but it’s not for me.
Here we have the the new trailer for Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, and honestly I’m blown away.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 2, is designed by Treyarch (not surprising giving the pattern of the series and the fact that they created Black Ops 1) and takes place in 2025. That’s right, Call of Duty: Future Warfare is what we’re looking at. The game is a direct sequel to the 2010 shooter following 2 decades, players will see a return of Alex Mason in the 1980’s missions and follow the exploits of his son David Mason in 2025, the story is connected though Agent Frank Woods from the first game, who is still alive and kicking. The main concept is what changes the game as it focus’ on the technology of war, and what happens when someone gets access to it.
Treyarch is getting help with the story from David S. Goyer, who helped co-develop the story for The Dark Knight, deciding that this game should shed more light on its villain. Players will see the breaking point for Raul Menendez (the games antagonist) in the 1980s to better understand his motivations for terror in the future. We see a man go from good soldier to bitter terrorist, and his story is as important to the entire plot of Black Ops 2 as any other character we meet.
Throughout the main campaign, you’ll be given an option to take part in a branching operation, these are called ‘Strike Force’ missions. “Remember those ‘Choose Your Own Adventure’ books? that’s sort of the idea we have here.” says game director Dave Anthony. Strike Force missions can pop up in the middle of the story that can help change the tide of battle for the current or later missions of the game, sometimes several missions will appear but the player can only pick one. This is an interesting twist and may be the step fans were looking for when they asked for a more evolved Call of Duty.
Of course Call of Duty wouldn’t be anything without it’s multiplayer mode, the near-futuristic technology will be fully available in mulitplayer and at a press conference, Treyarch showed 2 maps, “Aftermath” – A ruined L.A. And “Yemen” a desert town. The weapons and tools will all be based around the 2025 tech that you’ll see in the single player mode.
And of course, it wouldn’t be a Treyarch Call of Duty game if you don’t include the Zombies. World at War and Black Ops fan favourite mode will return in this latest edition, this time being integrated into the multiplayer engine, making it easier to access abilities as well as bring your multiplayer account over.
Black Ops 2 is looking at a November 13 release. You can expect to hear more about the title between that time.
