Nintendo has finally given the long-awaited sequel to The Legend of Zela: Breath of the Wild a new name and a release date. Announced on Tuesday during a Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo saved the best for last as they gave a short teaser trailer before announcing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and a release date of May 12th, 2023.
The latest trailer didn’t give us much more of a look at the new Hyrule outside of Link soaring through the skies, climbing the side of a mountain and solving puzzles with a familiar Breath of the Wild tool. Hopefully it won’t be long before we get a better look at the game while we wait for May to get our hands on it.
The Breath of the Wild follow-up was first announced at E3 2019, however the full title of the game was under-wraps as Nintendo has claimed it “might give away too much.” Breath of the Wild was released in 2017 on the Switch and Wii U and was extremely successful with over 25.8 million copies to date. The title brought many classical elements of Zelda but introduced it to a massive open world.
