Cliff Bleszinski, famed game designer and co-founder of Boss Key Productions, announced yesterday in a Twitter post that Boss Key Productions is “effectively no more” and that he’ll be stepping back from games to focus on himself and family.
“Four years ago I set out to make a world class video game studio and I hired some of the best talent in the videogame industry,” he wrote. “They worked tirelessly to produce quality products and, while we had our ups and downs, I’d like to think we had fun doing it. LawBreakers was a great game that unfortunately failed to gain traction, and, in a last ditch attempt we scrambled to do our take on the huge battle royale genre with Radical Heightswhich was well received, however, it was too little too late.”
“Videogames will forever be a part of who I am and I hope to make something new again someday,” he said. “However, I need to withdraw and take this time.”
Boss Key created the multiplayer hero-shooter Lawbreakers, which we enjoyed – but sadly saw playerbase dwindle in numbers quickly. Eventually the team made Radical Heights, a free-to-play Battle Royale shooter inspired by 80’s gameshows that stood out with some interesting design choices.
While the studio is winding down, the servers for Radical Heights will “remain up for the near future” according to Blezinski.
