While we known for some time that Borderlands 3 was on its way, and a cool teaser trailer raised some hype, Gearbox finally delivered on what fans wanted to see at PAX East last week with new footage of the long-awaited shooter.
The trailer features a lot of familiar elements – a four-person team of Vault Hunters, “over one billion guns”, mechs, psychos, sirens and Claptrap busting a move. We also got to see familiar faces like Maya, Lilith, Brick, Marcus, Tiny Tina and others.
The new Vault Hunters didn’t get a name or class presentation this time around, getting only a brief look at what they’re capable of, here is what we picked up from the trailer:
– A new Siren class character (which in the Borderlands lore we learn that there is only 6 in the universe at any given time). Her power seems more physical than Maya and Lilith’s, summoning six giant arms in the middle of battle.
– A young female hunter which seems to be using the support role previously provided by Roland and Axton, where she can summon a mech which can be controlled by players.
– An older male hunter who uses a holographic version of himself to distract opponents.
– An Android/Robot hunter who appears to have the ability to control some of Pandora’s more vicious creatures like Skags and Spiderants.
The trailer also showed off what appears to be a pair of new baddies out to cause the hunters some trouble, along with new locations including cities, wastelands and swamps – as well as new monsters to hunt and some unique weapons including a gun that has legs.

We didn’t only get Borderlands 3 news yesterday during Gearbox’s presentation, as they also confirmed the original Borderlands will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One with the Borderlands Game of the Year Edition – which will update the game to include 4K resolution, HDR lighting, updated character models and textures, as well as all the DLC and 4-player split-screen co-op. The Borderlands Game of the Year Edition will cost $29.99 USD on PS4 and Xbox One, while PC owners of the original game will be able to get everything upgraded for Free.
There is no release date or confirmation on the consoles which will get Borderlands 3, however Gearbox promised more information next week on April 3rd – which happens to be the same day as Borderlands Game of the Year Edition launches.
