While Borderlands 3 was confirmed by Gearbox during Pax, there was still a lot of information that was left on the floor – like when will we get to play it, are there any special editions or season passes and so on. With the release of the original Borderlands game on PS4 and Xbox One, Gearbox thankfully delivered more information.
The new information mostly comes from the official Announcement Trailer, which gives us a bit more of an idea of the stakes we’re up against in Borderlands 3. This time the big threat comes from the Calypso Twins, who are uniting bandit clans and attempting to claim the galaxy’s ultimate power. This of course requires the aid of 4 new vault hunters – Moze, Fl4k, Amara, and Zane – to step in and stop them.
According to the game’s press release, each of the characters are capable of handling the situation solo, but it’s always more fun with friends. Borderlands 3 will be the most accessible title of the series in that way as players can join friends regardless of levels or mission progress, yet deal meaningful damage to enemies and receive level appropriate loot.
We’ll also be able to travel off world in Borderlands 3, with several planets available to travel to, with promises of their own unique enemies, vaults and loot. Some of the new locations are shown in the trailer, however just how big these planets are in terms of play-size, is unknown.
“For the past several years, the team at Gearbox Software has been devoting every ounce of our passion, creativity and love into making Borderlands 3 the biggest, baddest and most ambitious Borderlands adventure we’ve ever made,” said Gearbox Software President and CEO Randy Pitchford. “Borderlands 3 is being crafted not only as a love letter to fans of the series, but also as an ideal entry point for new players to jump in alone or cooperatively, on- or offline.”
Borderlands 3 will available on PC via Epic Games Store, PS4, and Xbox One on September 13th – with the game landing on Steam 6 months later. Pre-Orders are available now, and you have your choice of game versions – Standard, Deluxe or Super Deluxe – which gives access to Bonus content and the game’s season pass.
