The long story of the development of Koji Igarashi’s Bloodstained: Ritual of The Night is coming close to an end as the game is finally set to be launched in June. However fans can expect a bunch of new content via DLC which will offer up to six optional game modes and other playable characters, with some of the content being available on Day One.
The first big of free DLC will include the Boss Run and Speed Run modes, plus a Pure Miriam outfit for the main character. Later, Bloodstained will get two additional characters and a Roguelike, Chaos, Classic and Boss Revenge Modes. Multiplayer, both local and online, will also be added for cooperative and competitive modes.
Not everything will be free however, as a $9.99 premium DLC pack called “Iga’s Back Pack” will be available on Day One as well, and include two things – a Swordwhip weapon and an in-game Koji Igarashi as a playable character. This pack was promised as an exclusive to backers of the crowd-funded game.
The premium DLC has struck some controversy amongst long-standing backers of the game, and a 505 Games representative acknowledged that the DLC made for a sensitive topic. The company advised that 30,000 backers were surveyed a year ago about their feelings on the DLC, while most were okay selling it “at a price that would respect the purchase the backers originally made.”
“Making this content available to everyone wasn’t just about making money,” said 505’s Robert Angel-Corlux. “I mean obviously that’s a part of it, but the chief things I was considering was making sure everyone had a safe and legitimate way to get the full game experience no matter when they find out about Bloodstained, whether that’s 5 months ago or 5 years from now, and that we were being respectful of the price backers originally paid (hence the DLC pricing).”
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night started its Kickstarter project in May 2015 and raised $5.5 million from fans. The game was originally due in 2017 but saw multiple delays and even cancellation of PSVita and Wii U versions. The game is finally coming on June 18th for PS4, PC and Xbox One, and June 25th on the Nintendo Switch.
