In an interview with Game Informer, Bethesda Softworks’ Pete Hines warned that any platform that don’t allow cross-console play will be cut out of The Elder Scrolls: Legends’ when it launches later this year. While Hines didn’t mention anybody specifically, the only console to present any issue with Cross-Platform capabilities happens to be Sony and the Playstation 4.
According to Hines in the interview, Bethesda’s expectations “are essentially non-negotiable” as The Elder Scrolls: Legends is currently on and cross-compatible with PC, Mac, iOS and Android, with the card game announced to hit Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4 later this year, with the idea being that players can carry over their progress via their Bethesda.net account.
“We cannot have a game that works one way across everywhere else except for on this one thing,” Hines told Game Informer. “We can’t be talking about one version of Legends, where you take your progress with you, and another version where you stay within that ecosystem or its walled off from everything else. That is counter to what the game has been about.
“I’m just telling you that’s our stance. That is our intent. And that is our message,” Hines continued. “Not specific to anyone in particular, but to everyone we are talking about. This is 100 percent clear. This is what we are doing, what we need, and what we intend.”
This wouldn’t be the first time Bethesda has called out Sony on their lack of Cross-Console support. In Early July, Bethesda Game Studios’ Todd Howard put the blame on Sony for the lack of cross-console play between players in the upcoming Fallout 76, stating that “Sony is not as helpful as everyone would like.” Before that with Fallout 4, Sony caused several delays to the game’s Mod system – the Creation Club.
Unfortunately, Sony has been quiet about Cross-Console Play, only acknowledging the issue between Fortnite players when the Switch version was released during E3, advising that they’re “looking into it.” Meanwhile Microsoft and Nintendo have released multiple titles to feature cross-console play, even featuring a great promotional video for Minecraft showing the two consoles playing together.
