While we’ve been enjoying Jedi: Fallen Order so much that we completely forgot about Battlefront 2, DICE has been getting ready to release another major content drop for the multiplayer shooter that will include an unexpected hero to the group.
BB-8, the Resistance droid who was made popular in Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be joining the hero line-up in January. The First Order will also be getting a playable BB unit under BB-9E which appeared in The Last Jedi. It seems like an odd choice given that the droid heroes have mainly played a more supportive role in the films and are never really seen on the attack, and DICE did not give much information on their capabilities to give us an idea of what to expect from the characters.
The BB units were only the first of a major update coming to Battlefront 2, which some will be timed with the upcoming Rise of Skywalker film, including a new Jungle planet, new units and skins. The units will include the Sith Trooper and Jet Trooper for the First Order, while the Resistance will get the Gunner and Spy – who will be two of the new aliens found in The Last Jedi. Meanwhile, Rey, Finn, and Kylo Ren will receive new skins based on their appearance in Rise of Skywalker.
The updates will start coming to coincide with the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker movie, which hits theatres on December 20, 2019. EA has also released a new Star Wars Battlefront 2: Celebration Edition which is available digitally on PS4, Xbox One and PC, which comes with the base game plus the complete collection of customization items.
