To say that the response to EA DICE’s Battlefield 5 has been rocky is a bit of an understatement as reviews hit the WWII shooter with mediocre reviews due to a single-player campaign that fell short and multiplayer that was unbalanced. However we may see some of those concerns get fixed with the first Tides of War update coming out today, which offers a new map, expanded cosmetics and a new single-player mission.
The new map in the Tide of War expansion, called Overture, is called Panzerstorm and is an armour focused multiplayer map based on the historical Battle of Hannut, which took place in Belgium in 1940. Unlike most maps where there may be two to three maps per side, Panzerstorm changes the game by adding 17 tanks on the map at one time.
Keeping with the Tank Theme, a new single-player mission will be released as well called “The Last Tiger” and puts the players in control of Nazi Germany’s Tiger I tank. According to DICE on the Playstation Blog, the story will focus on the closing days of the war and the emotional weight facing a crew of a Tiger I tank face as they make a last stand against the Allies.
“Desperately trying to defend their homeland, a lone Tiger I Tank crew must attempt a last stand against overwhelming Allied forces while beginning to question the ideology that brought them to that point. […] How will you use this legend of the German war machine to stay alive? Its heavy armor offers you some protection, but you’ll need to keep moving and play smart to make it through this War Story.”
The update also gives new cosmetic options for vehicles and two new arcade modes – Shooting Trial and Driving Trial – which allows players to take their weapons and vehicles for a test drive in a desert map with targets and scoring systems. The update is going live later today, however the timing has been delayed according to the Official Battlefield Twitter Account. We recommend keeping an eye on the account for when they’re up and ready. https://twitter.com/Battlefield
