It’s a crowded gaming season backed with plenty of big titles to enjoy, so its probably a good thing that Battlefield 5 is taking a bit of breathing room to help improve the game. DICE issued a statement on EA’s Website explainging that the game wanted to focus on making “some final adjustments to the core gameplay” and that they were “going to take our time to make sure we get it right.”
“You have told us that you are seeing an increased focus on squad play come through, you are also feeling the difference in our revamped player movement and we are getting a lot of positive feedback for our improved weapons handling,” Oskar Gabrielson, general manager of DICE, said in a statement. “You’ve also spurred us to make some meaningful improvements to the core gameplay experience, including adjusting the gameplay tempo, improving soldier visibility and reducing player friction. You’ll see a lot of these reflected in our Open Beta that starts on Sept. 6.”
The statement also notest that the team want to make sure that the Tides of War live service, DICE’s way of keeping the community together by adding content featuring multiple theaters of World War 2, is living up to its potential when the game launches.
“That’s why we’re moving our launch date,” Gabrielson said. “We’re going to take the time to continue to make some final adjustments to core gameplay, and to ensure we really deliver on the potential of Tides of War. We know moving the launch date means that we all have to wait a little longer. But we’re going to take our time to make sure we get it right.”
Originally set to launch on October 19th – sandwich between Call of Duty Black Ops 4 on October 12th and Red Dead Redemption 2 on October 26 – Battlefield 5 is now set to launch on November 20th. The Open Beta will give us a taste of what we can expect from the game on September 6th.
