Rocksteady is back at in the driver seat for the next instalment of the Batman: Arkham series. Earlier this week, Batman Arkham Knight was announced for a October 2014 release for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Pre-order incentives were announced that you’ll be able to play as Harley Quinn in some new challenge maps.
While this is good news for fans of the series to see the original award winning team back at the helm, Rocksteady also gave us some more information on what players can expect in this next Gen sequel to the series that would help wash the taste of disappointment some of us had after Batman Arkham Origins.
Start with the map, Rocksteady stated that Arkham Knight would have a map that is roughly 5 times the size of Arkham City and show off more of Gotham. Now a map that size requires some transportation, for the first time in the Arkham series the Batmobile will be available for players to drive.
Lead AI and combat programmer Tim Hanagan told Game Informer that “at any given time, there are between three and four times the number of thugs active in Gotham City than there were in Arkham City,” with larger riots can have more than 50 characters battling on screen.
As of the story, Arkham Knight takes place one year after the events of Arkham City, with crime at an all time low, Batman’s foes have banded together to take down the Dark Knight and bring down a crumbling Gotham. With characters such as Two-Face, Penguin, Harley Quinn and Scarcrow confirmed to make an appearance, Rocksteady also has created a new Arch-Villain for the game with DC Entertainment CCO Geoff Johns.
Finally I am pleased to announce that Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy will return to voice Batman, with other voice actors including Nolan North asĀ Penguin, Wally Wingert as Riddler, Tara Strong continuing her role as Harley Quinn and Troy Baker as Two-Face.
Currently the game is set for a October 2014 release, and we expect to hear more before the game’s release.
