During Nintendo’s Indie World Livestream, the developer and creator of the beloved indie Metroidvania game Axiom Verge, Tom Happ, announced that a sequel will be hitting the Nintendo Switch sometime in 2020.
According to the stream, production on Axiom Verge 2 started about 4 years ago and will allow players to “discover the origins of the Axiom Verge universe” according to the official announcement from Nintendo.
The original Axiom Verge was heavily inspired by the Metroid series and was set in a technologically advanced world in which players would have to navigate and find new items and power-ups in order to survive. Players would also find pieces of the world glitched out, which would require a code to get into new areas and repair the corruption.
Aside from the official announcement and a brief trailer, no further information about Axiom Verge 2 has been announced at this time.
