To put it lightly, BioWare has been having issues with their newly released loot-shooter Anthem. From low review scores, long loading times and more, the game has been fighting an uphill battle. To make things worst, for Playstation 4 players, reports had been coming in advising that the game has shut down and even possibly bricking the consoles.
Luckily, there’s a fix on its way that Bioware is hoping will correct this issue.
In a stream on Twitch, Anthem lead producer Ben Irving said that BioWare discovered “a bunch of things that were causing crashes, and we’ve addressed them in our patch.” Irving also made it clear with their investigation with Sony that they haven’t found cases where the console was actually rendered completely unusable by the crashes. “In all the instances we’re aware of that we’ve investigated in partnership with first-party, they can be powered back up if you know how to just turn the power back on, and cycle it properly,” Irving said.
Chad Robertson, head of live service at BioWare, had a similar statement on Twitter.
“We’ve identified several causes for the temp power-down crash some PS4 users experienced,” Robertson said. “Fixes for the top issues are in patch next week. If you encounter a game crash where your PS4 console won’t respond, you can manually power down and restart it – no risk of damage.
“After thorough review, we have not encountered an instance where Anthem has ‘bricked’ a PS4 console. If you are experiencing anything different, please reach out to @EAHelp so we can track the incident and investigate.”
At this time, the rollout for the patch is set to release on March 12th. BioWare still has some work to do with Online loot-shooter as more bugs have come to light, including one relating to damage-scaling rendering high-level weapons to be less effective than the starting weapons.
