A year after the game was pulled down from online retailers due to some licensing issues, Remedy’s Alan Wake is now available on Steam, GOG, the Humble Store, and will be back the Xbox Marketplace soon.
According to a Tweet from Remedy, they had Microsoft to thank for bringing the game back. “Big thanks to our partner and Alan Wake’s publishers @Microsoft who were able to renegotiate the rights to the licensed music in Alan Wake, so that the game can be sold again,” Remedy stated in the tweet.
In May 2017, Remedy announced that they would no longer be able to sell Alan Wake due to problems with the Music Rights. The game was heavily discounted before its removal, however it did not affect the game’s follow-up “Alan Wake’s American Nightmare” as Remedy had managed to lock down the music rights.
Alan Wake was critically acclaimed when it was released in 2012, and told the story of a depressed writer coming whose horror manuscript comes to life thanks to a dark force. Earlier this year, it was confirmed that a live action television series based on the game is now in development.
