The 2010 Psychological Horror game from Remedy Entertainment, Alan Wake, has made its way home as the publishing rights to the game has reverted back to the developers. The announcement was made in an official news release for investors, which notes a one-time, €2.5 million windfall.
For those unfamiliar with the series, Alan Wake was an Xbox 360 exclusive (later ported to the PC) focusing on a famous writer which the game gets its name from. It involved a mysterious force using Alan’s creativity to create a horror story and bring it to life, with Alan searching for his missing wife and missing pages of the manuscript he wrote.
While the rights have reverted back to the developers, there has been no official announcement of what may happen with the series at this time. With the rights reverted, Remedy can possibly put the game on other consoles or start work on a sequel. In 2015, Polygon reported a early prototype of Alan Wake 2 was created, however the project was cancelled. We’re likely not going to hear something right away as the studio is working on their latest game, Control, set to release later this year.
However there is hope for Alan Wake fans out there craving more from the series. A Television series is in development by Remedy and Contradiction Films with the game’s creator and Max Payne look-alike, Sam Lake, working as the executive producer with Peter Calloway (Cloak and Dagger, Legion) set to be the Showrunner and Writer.
