It’s been a few years since the bloody, and freaking awesome, Afro Samurai was introduced in North America thanks to Spike TV… You know, back when they had awesome stuff like Slam Ball. So we’ll have a quick history lesson.
The anime, which stared Samuel L. Jackson as in the lead role, focused on a young black samurai who protected the No. 2 Headband so he could kill the No. 1 fighter in the world who also happened to kill his father. The anime was so popular that in 2009, Bandai Namco pushed a video game adaptation.
So forward to 2015, and we get the first trailer for Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma. The game focuses on Kuma, the teddy-bear-head-wearing-cyborg-samurai as he plots his revenge against Afro, who he blames for the death of his loved ones at the academy. Afro Samurai 2 is being developed by Redacted Studios, which is owned by former Bandai Namco senior producer David Robinson, who worked on Afro Samurai as well as Dead to Rights: Retribution and Ace Combat: Assault Horizons.
The trailer itself has no gameplay, but does set the tone for the upcoming hack’n’slash, the game is set for launch later this year on PS4, Xbox One and PC.
