A new Five Nights at Freddy’s title got released with little fanfare as usual and at first glance, it appears a little different from the jump-scare fuelled titles that we’re used to.
The game – called Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator – is described as a “fun Five Nights at Freddy’s adventure with a lighter touch for the holidays” in which players will be in charge of developing their own Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza franchise and “Design Pizzas, feed kids, and get high scores!”
Although it didn’t take long for fans of the series to realize that Pizzeria Simulator is much more than it claims to be, as with all of the Five Nights at Freddy’s Games have proven to be.
Freddy’s creator Scott Cawthon hinted the release of Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria Simulator in June when he said that he effectively stopped working on the sixth title in the series. Stating:
“For the last month or so I’ve been dropping hints about a new game; and it’s true that I’d been working on one (call it FNaF 6 if you’d like.)” Cawthon said. “But after forcing myself to keep working on it day after day, I realized something: I just don’t want to work on this. With each game’s release, I think the expectations get higher and higher for the next, and rightfully so. Each game SHOULD be better than the last! But that pressure starts to mount, and I fear that I’ve been neglecting other things in my life for the sake of trying to keep up with those mounting expectations.
“So, after giving this a lot of thought; I’ve decided that I’m going to stop working on it. I’m not going to reveal anything else about what the game was, and I’ve asked other people involved to never divulge anything either. It’s just not going to be talked about.”
With many of his fans assuming that Cawthon’s statement was a publicity stunt of prank, he followed up with a post on steam “Yes, I need a break,” he said, adding, “No, it’s not a troll. (Would I ever troll you guys?)”
