Noob Saibot, Jax, Kung Lao and Liu Kang – these are just some of the major returning players announced for Mortal Kombat 11 thanks to a new gameplay trailer released during Sony’s “State of Play” livestream.
With the story focusing on a time-bending villain attempting to restore the balance after Raiden messes everything up, the latest trailer showcased past and future versions of the Mortal Kombat characters fighting each other. Some of the battles that were highlighted showcased Johnny Cage’s future Military Bro trying to talk sense against he even more egotistical Hollywood Johnny Cage (it’s surprising to see that the character actually kind of grew up) while Liu Kang and Kung Lao trade blows against their current Revenant selves from MK9/MKX.
Meanwhile a few days before the event, the latest KombatCast during the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo showed off the return of Noob Saibot, the dark spirit of the original Sub-Zero. The new gameplay trailer showed off the use of his shadow-clone, portals and a deadly new sickle weapon, and possibly the most gruesome Fatality yet.
We were also re-introduced to the sorcerer/shape-shifter Shang Tsung, who will be played by Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa – who previously played the character in the 1995 Mortal Kombat film and later reprised his role in the live-action web series, Mortal Kombat Legacy. Tagawa will be lending his voice and likeness for MK11 and will be your host to the Krypt – Mortal Kombat’s way of offering new unlockable items.
Mortal Kombat 11 is set for release on the Switch, PS4, PC and Xbox One on April 23rd.
