In an interview with Japanese gaming site Famitsu, Atlus announced and teased a few new iterations of the Persona series.
Those of you unfamiliar with the series, Persona is… a very hard game to understand, however, they all involve teenagers learning to control there inner demons called Personas’, to add to the “game is messed up”-ness you should also look at the other game the team made, one called Catherine.
The first tease came from a teaser site, announcing a remake of Persona 4 for the PSVita, this time adding new characters, cutscenes, and voicework – from the PlayStation 2 version, and we are told to “Expect the title to take advantage of Vita’s communication functionality.” The last hand held version of the game, Persona 3 Portable, saw the same style of upgrade, so we can expect an awesome upgrade.
The next titled announce is based off the Persona 4 world for the PS3 and Xbox 360, “Persona 4: The Ultimate Mayonaka Arena,” being the first Persona game on the new gen consoles. However, it is an RPG like it’s predecessor, it’s a fighting game from Arc System Works (Blazblue, Guilty Gear, and Hard Corps Uprising.) As of this moment only 4 characters (and their Persona’s) are announced Main/Izanagi, Chie/Tomoe, Yosuke/Jiraiya, and Aigis/Athena.
Finally, Atlus director Katsura Hashino teased Persona 5, claiming that he, character designer Shigenori Soejima, and composer Shoji Meguro have completed preparations for development of the next numbered entry in the series. He gave no information on when we’ll hear more.
