There is absolutly no doubt that Shaquel O’Neil is the best Basketball player in the world, it’s a little surprising that back in the 90’s, at the lowest part of his fame, he decided to do a couple of movies, Steel where he played a man in a suit of Steel that kicked total ass, and Kazaam, a kid friendly movie that allowed the world to see Shaq’s rapping prowess. The world absolutely loved these two movies, with critics saying that they were the best things that ever happened, bringing joy to their once miserable lives.
The world at the time didn’t get enough Shaq, so EA did the next logical step, have Shaq beating up creatures from another dimension using Kung-Fu. The results is one of the best games EVER!
Shaq-Fu starts with Shaq playing an all-star basketball game in Tokyo Japan, getting lost, he stops into a Kung-Fu Dojo to ask for directions. Here he finds that he is a warrior from another world who is supposed to stop the mummy Sett-Ra from taking control of a little boy.
To do this, Shaq must travel across this strange dimension using his knowledge of Kung-Fu to fight voodoo priests, sword wielding princes, a thieving cat-girl, amongst other creatures to rescue the kid. The story branches out to be quite dramatic, I laughed, I cried, I was moved.
The gameplay of Shaq-Fu is the basics of fighters, the buttons are responsive and special moves easy to pull off, rivalling Street Fighter in gameplay mechanics, matches are are quick, clean and simple, you’ll know when you hit someone and the reason why you were hit. The animation is fluid and each character feels different then the last. By the time you reach the final boss you think your ready to take on the world.
All and all this game has really stood the test of time, being one of the best fighting games available, or ever made.
