Yakuza 5 Due out in Japan in December.

Published by Grimm on May 27th, 2012

I will say, writing about a game that is only coming out in Japan at this time completely has an ulterior motive. Mainly that I really want to see it get localized quickly which for the Yakuza series doesn’t often.

Sega announced that Yakuza 5, the latest chapter in the long running gangster beat’em up/RPG, will be released in December of this year. There are several new features to the game, including 5 playable characters and 5 different cities. Confirmed characters so far are Kazuma, the series main protagonist, 4 and Dead Soul’s Akiyama, Seito and a fan shocker of Haruka, who fans of the series will remember as the adopted daughter of the main character.

Team Yakuza as even stated that a new engine will be running the game and we should expect some new changes to the gameplay. We’ll keep you informed on any news on the title.

Gearbox: Aliens Colonial Marines will be ‘better’ for the Wii U

Published by Grimm on May 26th, 2012

If your like us, your probably really excited about the upcoming Aliens: Colonial Marines game, and then you run into the question of how are you going to play it. Normally this would be answered with PS3/360 or PC, then the sudden realization that the game will also be available on Nintendo’s shinny new, not dust covered console that we only play for Nintendo Exclusives.   Brian Burleson, the producer at Gearbox, believes that the Wii U will be the best way to play the shooter thanks to it’s power.

“The Wii U is a powerful, powerful machine and it can do a lot of cool new things. And so the game itself, moving it over to work on the Wii U was not much of a chore,” he said in an interview with Eurogamer. ”Now the interesting thing is finding out all the cool ways you can use the controller to do new stuff with it. You can imagine all the cool things we can do, with this franchise and having a thing with you, right?” He didn’t go into specs on the new console, but Brian did let it slip that it would be better then it’s PS3/360 brothers due to “more modern tech.”

We’re all anticipating Nintendo’s showing at E3 to see what the new machine can do.

Gamestop Expo opens it’s doors

Published by Grimm on May 25th, 2012

I’ll admit, I’m always jealous of my buddies who work at the local EBGames around this time of year, because this is when the Gamestop Expo happens. This event is usually a giant press conference in which Gamestop/EBGames are invited to see some of the big titles and tech that will be offered during the busy times of the seasons. At least that’s how it was described to me.

The thing is, the expo was an employee event only. Which somewhere along the way, the big wigs decided that this should be changed. As the Expo is for the first time open to the public. According to GameInformer, which is owned by Gamestop, The GameStop EXPO 2012 will take place August 29 at the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio, TX. Attending will give you early hands-on with assorted video games, chances to win prizes, and the opportunity to meet with, “top video publishers and special guests.”

If you want to go to the Expo; there is a catch. First of which you need to be a Power-Up Rewards member, then you have to lay down $35 dollars for an entrance fee. If you want special treatment like ”up to four in-depth sessions with some of the biggest names in gaming, access to VIP-only lines and entrance to the VIP gaming lounge,” that will cost you $100 for the VIP pass. SCEA patents gameplay interrupting advertisements

Published by Grimm on May 25th, 2012

In 2011, Sony Computer Entertainment of America had patent filed, in which described an advertising system that would “suspend gameplay” , during which an advertisement will appear and then the game would continue shortly after. According to the patent, the ad will appear with an warning, slow down gameplay and then give another warning saying that the game will continue.

Now filing a patent does not mean it is (or if there is any plans to be) implemented in any future games, it’s just that someone thought it was a good idea to have a copyright attached to it. In which we sincerely hope that who ever did this was fired, or put this as a protection in case EA’s Project Ten Dollar (Online Pass) decided to go a little overboard.

Street Fighter’s 25th Anniversary Collector’s Set launches September 18th

Published by Grimm on May 24th, 2012

If your a huge Street Fighter Fan, and you have $150 to spare, then this may grab your interest as Capcom announced that they will release a 25th anniversary collectors set of Street Fighter.

$150 dollars, that’s a lot of money for a collectors edition! Some might say it’s worth it as it contains at least 15 discs, which contains Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo HD Remix, Street Fighter 3rd Strike Online, Street Fighter IV: Arcade Edition (and it’s DLC) and Street Fighter X Tekken (and it’s DLC.) Also a Documentary, two full-length Animated movies, the Full Street Fighter the Animated Series, and Eleven disc of music.

Still don’t think you have your money’s worth. Well then how about an Artbook, and Ryu’s belt.  How about a statue of Ryu doing a Shoryuken that lights up… Yeah thought that might catch your attention. The Collectors Set is due out on September 18th… Which is starting to make the month look very expensive.

Possibility of a new Castlevania to be announced at E3

Published by Grimm on May 22nd, 2012

According to Dutch site n1ntendo, a new Castlevania for the 3DS will be announced at E3 next month. The project will be exclusive to Nintendo’s handheld console, and has Castlevania: Lords of Shadow producers David Cox and Enric Alvarez attached to the project. At least that what their sources, a supposedly leaked E3 schedule for Konami, has stated.

While Cox did tease that he was spending a lot of time “in the land of Dracul”  back in April, but a few speculations points this rumor to false information. First of which is that the E3 Schedule leak that they based the information on was not stated on the net at the time of this posting, and second is Cox’s response to this rumor on Twitter, which called the information “Misinformed” stating that the “Truth is always better than Fiction.”

Looks like we’ll have to wait and see how this rumor turns out.

Ghost Recon Commander explodes on to Facebook

Published by Grimm on May 22nd, 2012

Ghost Recon Future Soldier may have hit selves today for PS3 and 360 owners, but what about PC players. Well sadly, the free to play Ghost Recon Online is still some ways away, but you can wet your appetite though Facebook as Ubisoft launched Ghost Recon: Commander. Developed by John Romero’s social game studio Loot Drop.

Commander is a isometric, tactical strategy game set within the Tom Clancy Universe and features “ten replayable levels, 3 difficulty options and a wide range of weapons to choose from.” Even playing Commander will give you perks for Future Soldier and Online with unlockable “weapons, skins and bonuses,” linking the account with Future Soldier gives you extra unlockable characters in Commander.

We recommend checking it out, after all a good Facebook game is usually hard to come by.

007 Legends first mission announced

Published by Grimm on May 21st, 2012

So we know that the upcoming 007 game is titled 007 Legends and will feature missions from past 007 flicks leading up to Skyfall (although that is yet to be determined if it is a classic). While many of us were wondering what flicks could be in the game, Activision’s marketing thought up a brilliant strategy.

The first mission was announced today along with the first trailer for Skyfall, and the first winner is Moonraker, in which James must find out who highjacked a spaceship and face off against Jaws. The trailer shows all the action you can expect from a James Bond game and a release date of October 16th.

Aliens Colonial Marines delayed to next year, Wii U still pending.

Published by Grimm on May 21st, 2012

Sega announced earlier this morning that Aliens Colonial Marines has been pushed back once again to a February 12th 2013 release date. Originally the game was set to a Fall 2012 release set by Gearbox and was also planned to be a Wii U Launch title (of course it was also set to launch on PS3/360/PC), while at the time no hard release date was given. The Wii U version however was given a statement about it’s release saying “A release date for the announced Wii U version will be revealed at a later time.”

This does bring up a few questions, is the Wii U version still aiming to be a Launch title? It’s too early to say right now, but we will keep you posted on any news on the title, in the meantime here is a trailer to keep you pumped.

The Amazing Spider-man introduces web rush

Published by Grimm on May 19th, 2012

Spider-man is making his way back to an open world setting, which can be either really good like Spider-man 2 and Ultimate Spider-man, or be really bad… like Spider-man 3… Sorry for bringing back those memories True Believers.

Beenox knows that there is a big toss up between Open-World Spider-man games, so they’re trying hard to make traveling around the Big Apple as Amazing as the hero. Introducing Web Rush, Beenox’s super fast travel and combat oriented ability.

The ability works by slowing down time and allowing Spider to pick his web-slinging point of interest, at that point he follows them taking down multiple enemies at once and reaching his target.

As we already know, Beenox has worked on previous Spider-man games and have proven their capabilities with Shattered Dimensions and Edge of Time. As Cool as this looks; we’ll have to wait to give it judgment when the game comes out on June 29th 2012.
